Converting a PowerPoint presentation to video
June 28th, 2007

Have you ever tried to show your PowerPoint presentation on a TV screen?
Or revise it with a PSP or iPod just on the go? Or share it as a video on YouTube?
You can do all of this just by converting your PowerPoint presentation to video.
This article aims to show you an easy way to convert your PowerPoint presentation to the one of the video formats: AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MP4.
That gives you plenty of options on how to use your videos:
- Publish your presentations online with AVI support
- Burn your presentations to a video disk with MPEG-1 support
- Create videos for playing back on a DVD player with MPEG-2 support
- Get your presentation on iPod, PSP or another portable device or mobile phone and rehearse it on the go with MP4 support
Just follow these easy instructions and you’ll be watching your own video in no time.
Step 1: Getting Started
You will need a PPTmovie software to convert your presentation to video.
If you don’t have it, get PPTmovie today.
Download and run the installer and follow the typical instructions on the screen.
After the installation is completed you will find PPTmovie folder in your Windows Start menu.

Step 2: Input and Output Settings
Browse a presentation file you’d like to convert and the destination folder where you want to store an output video file.

Press the “Next” button.

Step 3: Video Settings
Choose a video format and video settings for the output file. If you are unsure just leave the values as they are.

However, there are some tips that may explain you the meaning of each parameter.
Tip 1: The choice of a video format depends on how you are going to use your video:
| The purpose of the video file | Suggested video format |
| Publish on-line | AVI |
| Burn a video disk | MPEG-1 |
| Play on a DVD player | MPEG-2 |
| Watch on iPod, iPhone, PSP, PDA | MP4 |
Tip 2:
Check the video codec supported by your video/DVD player and choose the appropriate one. If you are unsure, just leave the default codec.
Tip 3:
A video format rate affects the quality of your video. The higher the rate the better the quality but also the large the file. It’s always a compromise between the volume and the quality.
As you have done press the “Next” button.

Step 4: Audio Settings
Tick the “Record sound” box in the audio settings page to enable sound recording in your presentation.

Please keep in mind that to record and hear sound or comments, you need a sound card, a microphone, and speakers.
Choose “Microphone” if you are going to record your narrations or “Speakers” to use any audio file on your computer. You can only choose one of them at once.

Press the “Next” button.

Step 5: Converter Settings
Choose the video file resolution according to your purposes. For example, 480×320 for iPhone®, 320×240 for iPod® playback, or 704×480 for DVD NTSC. If your player supports a different resolution type choose ’Custom’ and enter it manually.

Choose the way you wish to control the slides advance. For example, if you are recording your narrations it ’s reasonable to choose “Manually”.
Press the “Next” button.

Step 6: Converting The Presentation
Here you see your presentation.

If you are using sound from speakers in your presentation (have chosen “Speakers” at Audio settings, Step 4) please turn your audio file now, just before you started converting your presentation.
Please follow the instructions above the presentation.
Use “Record”, “Pause”, and “Stop” buttons to manage your narrations or a sound from speakers.

or press the “Mute” button to keep silence.

Use the “Next” button to turn over the pages of the presentation if you have chosen advance slides “Manually” (Step 5).

If you have it “Automatically” or “As defined in your presentation” you will have no “Next” button on the screen and slides will be advanced as defined in the converter settings (Step 5):

Important! Do not switch to another window during the conversion.
As you finish your conversion the video will be saved in the destination folder. You can press “Open Folder” button to open the folder and easily find ythe output video file or you can click “Finish”. PPTmovie will be ready to convert another presentation to video file for you!
